Work in JP - how to find?

by lulu on Thu Jun 19, 2008 8:56 am

I'm not sure if this belongs into this forums...

How hard is it to find work in JP? My brazilian girlfriend would like to work when we live in JP. She only speaks Portuguese and is 20 years old. She has worked in hotels, shops an restaurants in Rio but doesn't have a higher qualification.

Is there a good web site with jobs?

Finding work in NE Brazil is very hard from what I understand, we haven't been looking so I can only go by 2nd hard information and everyone says its hard; also most jobs only pay minimum salary; so most of the Brazilians I know work 2 jobs it seems.

I think its going to be difficult for her but in the same breath that shouldn't stop her trying. I am looking in tonights paper now and there are all sorts of jobs. It all depends on being in the right place, at the right time and knowing the right people. As for websites, well you could try here. Send a message to London Lad and ask him if its worth while setting up a "jobs" topic.

FISK are looking for qualified English teachers. Apply Centro office near Lagoa. The news was from a little bird who didnt have a phone number.

Truth be told, it will be dependent on class numbers and experience. If you want me to hazard a guess, I would say around R$650 a month but it is only a guess. It could be twice that which is still low in the greater scheme of things. Most English teachers that I know including the ones that work at the university, have a second, even a third job. The only people who make any real money at teaching are school owners. Buy a school is my advice; REALTIME is for sale right outside of Manaira shopping fo R$50,000. You could do alsorts with it, especially as the new skate park has opened opposite.

Mr Jugg,

Do you know if it's still for sale ? Do you have any information on the previous owners ?
Thanks

Hi Paul I think it is. I personally think it has a lot of potential as it is in an excellent location ( next to MAnaira shopping) and opposite a skating area with bars and bus stops ( lots of potential customers) The current owners have no idea how to market the place it is very badly advertised and space is poorly used. It actually sits on one of the busiest roads in JP, such a waste. There are lots of ways the school could be used because it is close to the shopping centre.
I know the whole area was for sale at R$350,000.
An obvious question is why didnt I go for it, well I was going to but my partner wanted to invest in other things and has since moved back to the states. I couldnt do it on my own.
