Attacks on buses in the Capital Approaches 100

September 17th, 2009

The number of robberies committed on buses so far this year is 93, the latest of which happened yesterday afternoon near the Fire Department in Tides, where the bus No 104 was robbed.

According to a police source, the assault was carried out by two men armed with a revolver. In addition to taking the money from the conductor, they also stole all the belongings from the passengers and then fled on foot.

Also yesterday an intercity coach was robbed between the towns of Jericho and Lagoa while travelling between Natal (RN) and Crato (CE). The coach was intercepted around 1:30 on the BR323 and boarded by 8 well armed and hooded gunmen.

The bandits set up a barricade across the road with stones and wood, then shot at the vehicle forcing the driver to stop, the bus was then driven several miles to a secluded area where the passengers were robbed of cameras, mobile phones, watches, shoes, jewellery, documents and a laptop.

In both cases the police have been unable to catch the villains.
