GENERAL RULES
Foreign citizens travelling to Brazil as researchers, visiting professors and members of cultural or scientific missions must have a ‘Cultural Visa’. The form for applying for a visa may be downloaded here (pdf file).
- Applicants must lodge their application in person.
- Nationals of Austria, Finland, France, Iceland, Italy, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Spain and United Kingdom are exempt from this type of visa, provided that their stay in Brazil does not exceed 90 days and they do not receive any payment in Brazil.
- First entry into Brazil must be within 90 days from the date the visa is issued (It is the responsibility of the applicant to make sure the application is lodged accordingly)
- Within 30 days of arrival in Brazil, bearers of a ‘Cultural Visa’ must register with the Brazilian Immigration authorities (DPMAF) and submit the second copy of the visa application form, which will have been stamped and returned to them by the Consulate General.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Applicant’s passport, valid for no less than 6 months (Soiled, damaged or defaced passports will not be accepted)
- Two visa application forms, duly filled and signed by the applicant
- Two passport-size photographs
- Proof of means of support during the applicant’s stay in Brazil (Bearers of this type of visa are not allowed to receive a salary from a Brazilian source, except for travel, accommodation and out-of-pocket expense allowances)
- A letter from the institution in Brazil to which the applicant will be linked, sponsoring the trip (if applicable) and stating its nature and duration (the signature on that letter must be legalised by a Notary (Tabelião) in Brazil)
- For applicants of 18 years of age or above: Certificate of Prosecution/Conviction History
- Certificate of vaccination, where necessary
- Receipt of payment of the consular fee
