Having completed 18 years of age, bride and groom may get married without the need of parental consent.
When groom and/or bride are 16 or 17 years of age, the presence of both parents at the registry is required, to sign a term of consent.
If one or both parents have died, their death certificate(s) must be taken to the registry.
If one or both parents live elsewhere or are travelling, they will have to go to the Civil Registry of that location to have a Term of Consent prepared. They will send this Term to the groom / bride to be presented at the registry of marriage.
If father and/or mother are missing (residence unknown), two additional witnesses of 18 years or more will have to go to the registry with their original ID cards, to attest to that fact.
Persons below age 16 can only get married under judicial order.
