GENERAL RULES
A ‘Resident Visa’ may be granted to the retired foreign citizens wishing to live in Brazil, provided that they are legally allowed to transfer to Brazil a regular monthly income, pension included, of at least US$ 2,000.00 (two thousand US dollars), and after due authorisation by the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil. - This minimum required income will allow for the applicant to take two legal dependants to Brazil. (for every additional dependant, an additional amount of US$ 1,000.00 per month will be required)
- Applicants must have lived in the UK for at least one year prior to the visa application
- Applicants must lodge their application in person
- First entry into Brazil must be within 90 days from the date the visa is issued
It is the responsibility of the applicant to make sure the application is lodged accordingly.
Within 30 days of arrival in Brazil, bearers of a ‘Permanent Residence Visa’ must register with the Brazilian Immigration authorities (DPMAF) and submit the second copy of the visa application form, which will have been stamped and returned to them by the Consulate General.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS (original documents and one complete set of photocopies)
- Applicant’s passport, valid for no less than 6 months (Soiled, damaged or defaced passports will not be accepted, Passport photocopy must be authenticated by the ConsulateGeneral, fee applicable)
- Three application forms, duly filled and signed by the applicant
- Three passport-size photographs
- Full Birth certificate and marriage/divorce certificate, as applicable, duly legalised by the Consulate (fee applicable)
- For applicants of 18 years of age or above: Certificate of Prosecution/Conviction History (Section 21, Data Protection Act 1998, Subject Access, Person Record) or an equivalent document.
- Proof of residence of the applicant in the UK for at least 12 months prior to application (e.g. a letter from the Register of Electors, or landline telephone bills, or a letter from the applicant’s GP), based on which the Consulate General will issue a Certificate of Residence (fee applicable)
- Document from DHSS/private pension provider stating the applicant’s retired status, the pension’s amount, its equivalent amount in US dollars, and confirming that that amount can be legally transferred to Brazil (document must be legalised by the Consulate General - fee applicable. In the case of a private pension, the signature on the relevant declaration has to be witnessed by a Notary Public, and legalised by the Consulate General, fee applicable).
