GENERAL RULES

A ‘Resident Visa’ may be granted to the retired foreign citizens wishing to live in Brazil, provided that they are legally allowed to transfer to Brazil a regular monthly income, pension included, of at least US$ 2,000.00 (two thousand US dollars), and after due authorisation by the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil. The form for applying for a visa may be downloaded here (pdf file).

It is the responsibility of the applicant to make sure the application is lodged accordingly.

Within 30 days of arrival in Brazil, bearers of a ‘Permanent Residence Visa’ must register with the Brazilian Immigration authorities (DPMAF) and submit the second copy of the visa application form, which will have been stamped and returned to them by the Consulate General.
