Barra do Gramame

This is the sort of beach that you need to take your time to get to know. In spite of the winding and twisting road, those who visit Gramame will think they have arrived in paradise. They will find a beautiful seaside, where the clear, soft sands of the beach are moulded by the force of the waves. The calm and lukewarm waters of the River Gramame, go round a small island and the mangrove swamp.

Completing the scene are kiosks and fishermen’s houses which are spread out over the area. You can spend the day at Gramame enjoying a typical fish dish at shaded tables or “paloças” in the ocean with the warm sea water lapping round your knees. Some days, you can walk for several kilometres without meeting a soul, save the occasional fisherman.

The parking area, which is very close to the kiosks and the beach, is shaded for the most part and is monitored by the locals. Expect to leave a small tip for their attention. Gramame is part of the Prefeituras beach preservation scheme so you will see a collection area for glass and plastic bottles. Please leave your rubbish there.
