How to get there:

From the centre of João Pessoa drive to the end of Ave Epitacio Pessoa at turn left onto Ave Almirante Tamandare.

The statue of Tamandaré, on Ave. Epitácio Pessoa marks the beginning of the Tambau beach, one of the livliest of João Pessoa, ending at the pier (or English Bridge) and at the end of Ave Rui Carneiro. Amongst the many hotels and pousadas is the Tropical hotel Tambaú, famous for having being built on the sands of the beach and host to many exhibitions and conventions.

Tambau boasts many fine bars, a fish market, fruit market and three handicraft markets. The main tourist information centre is housed in a small shopping centre at the northern point of Tambau which also houses the local tourist police office. Several of the main banks have offices or machines in the area. Several restaurants and night clubs are located in the main streets just off the beach front.
