Joao Pessoa airport could become a mini hub for Azul Airlines

Azul Linhas AéreasThe Castro Pinto Airport, located in Bayeux, Greater João Pessoa could soon become a mini hub for the airline Azul, discussions are currently on going.

Azul currently has its main hub at Congonhas airport in Campinas, but according to the president of PBTur there is a possibility of a mini hub in the Northeast, which will offers transfer flights with faster connections. If the deal is completed it will be a major boost for tourism, not only in the city but also the State.

The national secretary of Airports Nelson Negreiros has confirmed, there is a project to build a new terminal at Castro Pinto airport, apparently, “the project is still in the engineering department, but is nearing completion”.

Comparison between the Census of 2000 and 2010 show that the city of João Pessoa’s population grew by 220,000 according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The population of the city has now reached 769,604 spread over its 64 districts. Planning has now become a major issue with the growth of highrise building throughout the city.

Joao Pessoa will hold a seminar to discuss the issues raised by it rapid expansion, bring together experts from other States, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), government agencies, environmental organizations and the public, to see how best to deal with the challenges such a fast expansion can bring.

It is hoped that any new city plans will address the lack of reconstruction in the old town where the potential for growth is greatest.
