Around 1,000 delegates to the National Convention of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB)threw their support to Workers Party candidate Dilma Rousseff for the October presidential election.
The meeting, held at the Brazil 21 Convention Centre, ratified the party’s April 8 decision to support the Workers’ Party (PT) in accordance with the existing alliance between the two political groups.
The PCdoB National Convention also supported the candidacy of Michel Temer, chairman of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB), as Dilma’s running mate.
Several Brazilian parties have announced their support for the Dilma-Temer ticket, which will begin campaigning with a view to winning either the first round of voting on October 3 or the runoffs on October 31.
The PCdoB Convention adopted a resolution stating that the October elections, where two conflicting political groups will clash will be decisive for the fate of the country.
According to the latest polls, Dilma was in a tie with Jose Serra of the opposition Brazilian Social Democratic Party, with 37 percent. Serra does not yet have a running mate.
