The board of the World Bank approved a loan worth $190 million to Pernambuco state, in northeast Brazil, to support the so-called Pernambuco Sustainable Water Project, the bank said late Thursday in a press release.
That project aims to provide urban areas in the Capibaribe river basin and the Metropolitan Region of Recife, the state’s capital, with universal access to water supply by 2014 and sanitation services by 2018.
The loan will mature in 27.5 years and has a grace period of 6.5 years.
