Japan Airlines Corp is considering scrapping its plan to eliminate flights between Tokyo and Brazil’s Sao Paulo as part of its restructuring measures in view of robust travel demand anticipated with the selection of Rio de Janeiro to host the 2016 Summer Olympics, sources familiar with the matter said Friday.
In addition to Sao Paulo, JAL is also planning to continue four other international routes linking Japan with rapidly emerging markets in Thailand, Indonesia and Taiwan where it can expect to raise profitability through stepped-up marketing efforts, the sources said.
